Our History
The Women’s Resource Center of North Central Washington was originally organized in the 1970s as part of several community programs under the umbrella of the Community Action Agency. On February 4, 1980 WRC officially opened in city-owned space. Three years later, we moved our offices to "the Blue House," located at 20 Adams Avenue and on February 15, 1984 we incorporated as a Washington State nonprofit corporation with the specific purpose of helping women who are facing a variety of problems. It quickly became apparent that that one of the greatest challenges affecting women was homelessness. The upper floor of the Blue House became a shelter for homeless single women while the basement sheltered homeless families.
On December 30, 1993, WRC purchased The Bruce Hotel, a dilapidated transient hotel in downtown Wenatchee and began the journey that continues today providing individuals and families experiencing poverty and homelessness with housing and supportive services. All assistance is delivered with the objective of promoting a sense of family and community through education, support and affirming the value of a healthy nurturing environment for children.
